Hi Rebecca,

I finally found time to come and reread this post, and allow my mind and creative nooks to absorb it all.

I really haven't delve deeply into fiction, but I know I will some day. Right now, I'm focusing on nonfiction, and that is where I'm happiest in my writing at this stage.

This is a great piece of key advice:

"It takes practice to hear the language in your stories."

Whether writing fiction or nonfiction, it takes practice to find our own unique voice. Once we accomplish that, our writing will speak to multitudes...

Very informative, Becca!

Smiles,
Michele

Sometimes it's the "write a story" part that causes so much trouble. I know for me, I can't sit with nothing and write. There has to be some sort of groundwork set out before I begin to guide my path or I'll stare at the page for hours on end and write nothing.

Still, just because I have to start with a plan doesn't mean that detours are prohibited. In my case the plan is just to give me something to head towards so I'll back out of the driveway. Once I'm on the road I can go anywhere I like (or rather anywhere the story or characters like). :-)

I think that if a writer can just write a story, they've got half the process. The other half is editing it to clean up those loose bits shaken up by the writing process.
