We Have Moved! YAY!!! – Please Update RSS & Links!
by Rebecca Laffar-Smith
I’m currently putting together The Writer’s Round-About on it’s ALL NEW DOMAIN NAME! YAY! Actually, the domain name isn’t new. It’s just taken me a month or so to figure out how to set up my blog on the new domain but I finally figured it out. I’ve moved upscale with a special Wordpress.org install on my BlueHost server and things look like they’re coming along nicely.
I just wanted to leave a note as today’s post to let people know that we’ve moved. If you’re subscribed to a reader or via email PLEASE check your feed is pointing to the right place: http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheWritersRoundAbout
If you’ve linked to The Writer’s Round-About (http://laffarsmith.blogspot.com) in the past then I’d really love it if you could update your links! Old links ’should’ still work but by updating to the new domain you can help me with my SEO and Page Rank. If you come across a dead link that should point to The Writer’s Round-About please let me know.
So, just to recap. The All New Writer’s Round-About can now be found at http://www.writersroundabout.com That’s east to remember, isn’t it? If you’ve got any questions, need help, or just want to say hi feel free to email me at rebecca.laffarsmith@gmail.com or leave a comment!

Loving the new look!
The new blog looks great and my feed reader is updated.
Thanks Natasha and Sharon!
I’m still tweaking appearances. I’m not entirely convinced about the purple background. It matches the links colors but I don’t know. My professional mind says things should be white. lol I’m hoping a logo at the top of the page will help. Still tweaking, any suggestions and comments Re: the design are very, VERY welcome.
The Top Five Commenters WILL all be linking soon. I have to manually go in and update comments to include your URLs and emails. Those things don’t port over from google.
There are a couple of other kinks I’m still figuring out. Like how to allow users to subscribe to comments and how to make sure I’m getting notified of them (since for some reason I’m not right now). As always, teething issues with a new site. It’s times like this I’m thankful for my tech savvy. I’ve been scrolling through php scripts and mysql databases for the last two days. lol
*ponders* Ok, I think I pulled together the subscribe feature and got my notifications working. Let me know if you have any problems with any of the features on the site.
Congratulations, Rebecca! You’re doing a great job
Can’t wait to see how Writer’s Round About grows and learn more from your awesome, tech savvy, writing mind!
Smiles,
Michele
Thanks Michele!
Let me know if there is anything you need help with learning on the ‘tech savvy’ front. I’m happy to share knowledge and help out if I can. Porting the old blog to the new one was a much bigger experience then I’d originally planned but the features of Wordpress and the additional control it offers makes the few days turmoil worth it. This is the sort of work I really love (along with writing) too. I wish I got more commission work that involved web aspects.
Congrats on your new URL!

Writing for Writers
Thanks Melissa! And double thanks to you because it was your blog that prompted me to push ahead with getting the domain name working.
Congrats on the move! I know it must have been nerve-wracking…but it looks great!!
Thanks Courtney!
Congratulations, Rebecca. I did the same thing a few months ago. You’re on my RSS reader (I use My Yahoo) so I got the message right away. Who would have thought we would have to do so much web technology to keep in touch with readers.
Best wishes,
Jerry Waxler
Thanks Jerry! I have to admit I was concerned that the changes might have lost a few readers along the way but with forwarding my old blog to the new one and setting up these links so they ’should’ match the old ones I was hoping to catch as many old links just incase they don’t get updated by whoever created them.
My next job is to go over all my old entries and update my links etc. to make sure they are all still working. I’ve noticed a few dead ones already. Then after that I was thinking about digging about on the web for any trackbacks and notifying the site/blog owners of the change so they can choose to update their links too.
It’s a big job but ultimately worth it. I’m just glad I’m doing it now rather than in a few months time when links are more prolific and posts more numerous.
