’tis the season to be jolly!

I love the holidays. Stores are filled with the spirited buzz of lively activity and bright colors. In Australia summer vacation has just begun and children are everywhere, their laughter and excited voices carry in the breeze. Catchy carols, the ones we all know the words to, start taking over the radio. Everything is on SALE!!!

At this time of year I’m so full of good cheer that I can’t help but spoil myself, my family and my friends with goodies. As a writer my particular fetish is for books, stationary and technogadgets. I have to admit that Amazon is like online heaven.

BOOKS

The start of my wishlist is always cluttered with books. In fact, my actual Amazon wishlist is pages long with books that are on my list to read, buy or beg for. I’ve noticed most writers feel like there is no such thing as too many books. If you’re looking to treat yourself then books are a great way to do it. Amazon has a fantastic range and you can let your friends and family know what is on your own wishlist if they’re looking to spoil you.

STATIONARY

In Australia we’re seeing the first blush of ‘back-to-school’ stationary frenzy. It’s my favorite time of year. Special notebooks, fancy pens, pretty paper, printing paper, and all those neet little gadgets. I found a couple of electric sharpeners on Amazon too. I can’t tell you how long I’ve been hunting around for those.

TECHNO-GADGETS

One of the very special gifts I know I’ll be getting this Christmas is a personal digital organizer. I’m so excited and I have to admit I’m impatiently frustrated waiting the six days till I can open the goodies and get tinkering. What I did do was spoil myself by buying my first cordless phone. It’s still charging at the moment because it arrived today. I want to play with it, program it, check out the headset feature and key in my phonebook but I can’t yet.

While I was browsing on Amazon tonight I came across another gadget I’d love to get my hands on. What do you think of this awesome Cyberpad USB Digital Notepad and Pen? I made sure the organizer I picked for my kids to give me had a memo feature but I don’t think that will compare to how handy this gadget would be.

AMAZON’S NEW E-READER: KINDLE

The last fancy gadget that has caught my eye recently is Amazon’s new ebook reader, Kindle. I love the idea of this kind of product. I think I prefer the stylized design by Sony but it feels like all the e-readers I’ve discovered so far are lacking a few features that would make them a must-have for me. This is a new technological advancement so I know if I wait just a little longer they’ll upgrade these devices based on user feedback and include all manner of new features. For those who want to get ahead of the curve now then Amazon’s Kindle may be the way to go. Imagine having hundreds of books in one hand as you commute to work or lay back in bed. I know nothing can beat the feel of a real book but for all those books I’ll borrow but not normally buy it would be fantastic!

What do you like to buy when the silly season hits? Are you passionate about stationary? Do you have a long wishlist of books?

  1. Hi Rebecca!

Boy, you have the Christmas spirit! There are lots of goodies in this post…. thanks for sharing! Now, if I only hadn’t spent so much on gifts for others I’d be able to splurge on one or two of these amazing treats for myself :-(

Maybe I’ll sneak back and grab a good book off this list anyway :-)

    Merry Christmas!
    Michele

  2. Everyone deserves to give themselves a gift in the holidays! We’ve had a big, busy year and made many successes and achievements. Acknowledge the years efforts with a special treat for yourself.

I also found it a good way to make sure I’d have something to unwrap while the kids were making wrapping paper termite hills.

    I like presents. ;-)
