My funniest way of finding sources was the time I ended up having to drive to San Francisco and stand in a farmers market for over an hour harassing anyone with a stroller. I was supposed to find "real, local" parents who made their own baby food to interview for an article that I had already turned in to "complete" it. What a day! People saw me coming with my clipboard and tended to either freak out or run the other way. :)

Writers looking for experts can also try http://www.findaTVexpert.com - an online database of experts for TV, Radio and the Media. It was set up by ex TV producer Claire Richmond to give experts who want to be considered for TV & Media opportunities the chance to showcase their skills to the industry - and to give members of the media a fast & easy way of finding experts to comment on a subject or be part of a TV show. By registering to search the site (it's free for members of the media), you will have access to a wide range of experts: dentists, doctors, designers, detectives, businessmen, tradesmen, scientists, criminologists, psychologists, etiquette experts and many more.
