It can be a dizzying online world when it comes to social media in our Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 society. It is easy to feel lost, overwhelmed, and confused as each latest fad or gadget flashes through your inbox or feed reader full of invitations. Thankfully, there are sites out there that introduce social media to average users.
@Teeg of SU Comments wished someone would offer social media insights and created her blog to share her experiences with FaceBook, Twitter, Plurk and more. If you want the 4.1.1. on a social media website she’s the woman to go to and since she loves to socialize you can catch her on your favorite social networking sites to ask ‘in person’.
While SU Comments is a fantastic place to browse hints and tips for using Stumble Upon what drew me to @Teeg’s site originally was her 10-Minute-Guides to Plurk. Plurk is a challenging social networking site to get started with so in my early Plurk days I worshiped her short tutorial style guides.
- Plurk Guide Part 1: Getting Started
- Plurk Guide Part 2: Let’s Get Plurking
- Plurk Guide Part 3: Cliques
- Plurk Guide Part 3a: Printable Emoticon List
- Plurk Guide Part 4: Mobile Plurking
I have three other favorite posts on the site that you should read if you want to leave your mark on the social media world.
SU Comments Asks: What Type Of Social Network User Are You? Do you love to bookmark sites you’ve visited so that you can come back to or share sites with others? Would you rather rate sites or Digg up the treasures to share with others in the online universe’s favorite popularity games? Do you like to build your list of friends, with friends, and more friends? Or do you love to chat and hang out with online buddies from across the globe who share your interests?
In September, @Teeg wrote about Keeping the ‘Social’ in Social Media. Have you ever wondered exactly where all this networking is taking you? It may be time to put on your running shoes and get out into real life. Meet your social media friends in person, gather together and make a deeper connection. Turn your social network into friendships.
Finally, a year ago (I like to dig deep into archives.) @Teeg asked, “How Would You Describe Twitter? Twitter hasn’t changed a great deal in the past year. The Great Fail Whale might have been replaced with some friendly looking birds but Twitter is still “a service [...] to stay communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?”
Do you have a favorite SU Comments post? Do you know of other Social Media Hints and Tips blogs? What do you love best about SU Comments?
Have you ever looked through your eyes into those of another writer who is striving to create his place in the writing world? Whenever I hear the day to day progress of my plurk friend, David, I’m amazed at his courage, motivation, and creativity. He’s a remarkable man who loves to write. His passion for telling the story shines through each of his blog entries on, “How to get your novel published.”
Every few days, David takes time to look into the eyes of other writers. He asks questions and interacts with the writer community. He shares his own experiences, his trials and triumps, his passions and perks. David gives of himself when he writes for his readers and he does it so generously it is easy to see the gift in the words he brings to the page.
What you might not know about David is that he is disabled. His hands are significantly damaged, so much so that David cannot write with them. His beautifully written works are created with the wonder of technological transcription. He dictates his blog entries and stories into software that transforms his words to text on the page. His courage and determination have been an inspiration to me.
Now, David is asking for help. You see it’s not easy to support a family on a disability pension. He does what he can while suffering quiet agony and reassuring his loving wife. He’s putting his time into writing a novel and hopes that it will put food on the table, in time. Today he’s asking for our support.
Do you have funds to spare? What about gifts to send? Please consider offering something for David’s Food Fund. Every little bit helps and I know David appreciates any thoughtful gesture. If you can’t offer financial help perhaps you could spread the word?
I hope you’ll take some time to browse “How to get your novel published.” there are true gems of information and inspiration there that will inspire all writers and touch all readers.
Thank you! For supporting me with your kind thoughts and continued reading of Writer’s Round-About. As a single mother existing on a pension I can relate to David’s circumstances. It’s hard to get by and knowing I have dear friends who cherish my words here helps me push onward, each and every day.

Wow! It has been a big month to wrap up another busy year. 2008 has swung into action with a strangely calm and quiet day. The months to come are filling with plans and preparation. Talk abounds in the blogsphere of goals, resolutions, plans and progress. Everyone seems to be focused on what 2007 brought them and what they’re looking forward to in 2008.
I want to take a moment today to look back at the past month and beyond to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who helped breath life into The Writer’s Round-About. Creating a successful blog is not as easy as it seems. Without your dedicated support we wouldn’t have achieved the great success The Writer’s Round-About has had in the last months. Your comments, stumbles, diggs and links have given this blog a warm atmosphere and lively spirit. Thank You!

Thank you to all who participated in the latest Absolute Write Comment Blitz. These blitz are always so much fun and I hope you all enjoyed my blog as much as I enjoyed yours.
As returning guests may have already discovered this is a recurring theme at The Writer’s Round-About. Each month I like to reflect and voice my appreciation for the participation and contribution visitors make. With the close of 2007 I’d like to recap those entries.
I give my regards and gratitude to all of you. Your presence and encouragement through 2007 gave me remarkable strength and inspired my journey along the bumpy writer roads and round-abouts. I look forward to continuing our travels together in 2008.
Lisa Gates of Design Your Writing Life put together a lovely post on Monday. A Gratitude “Meme”. I thought it was such a lovely idea. We should always be willing to show our deep appreciation. Since I was planning to do a November link-love for my commenters I’ve decided to follow Lisa’s lead, a gratitude meme, feel free to spread the fire of thanks on your own blogs and drop a link in the comments if you do.
With my deepest thanks I’d like to take a moment to appreciate the inspiration, encouragement and wonderful thoughts offered by people around the world in response to my blog entries. My readers comments encourage my continued blogging so if you continue to comment, I’ll continue to write here.
Melissa Donovan – I’ve only recently discovered Melissa but was so captivated with her lovely, informed voice and eagerness to share with other writers that I couldn’t resist plugging her blog Writing Forward in a recent blog review. Every new entry adds a richness to the developing blog and I know she is going to have a great deal of success. Thank you for your comments this month, Melissa, and for linking to me during the month of November.
Natasha Judd – Thank you for the linkage this month, Natasha! I always appreciate seeing what you’re writing about on Web Stuff 4 Writers and love to see your comments here at The Writer’s Round-About. Thanks for your support!

Anne Creed – I’ve missed you in the past weeks, Anne. I hope you’ll be updating Novel Goals and Novel Struggles with your recent novel writing progress. Your blog, Squiggle~ the Writing World of Plaid Earthworm is filled with your lovely voice and intriguing entries that show your insightful and creative mind.
Deborah Dera – Thank you for your comment in November Deborah. It was good to know that I’m not alone when it comes to fear of writing. It’s strange that something we love so much can also terrify us. I guess it’s the things that matter most that cause the greatest extremes of emotion. Your blog, The Rhythm of Write is filled with fantastic topics. I haven’t had a chance to explore it deeply yet but I’m looking forward to doing so.
Jeff Draper – It was wonderful to hear from you again in November, Jeff. Your comment really brought a smile to my face but in a way it’s very true. If only we’d stop being such perfectionists we’d find this job so much easier. Scriptorius Rex has some great little tidbits, thanks for sharing them with us.
Rebecca Taunton – I really enjoyed your visit to The Writer’s Round-About, Rebecca. I really love your photographs on Cornish Dreamer. You’re far less ‘amateur’ than I am but the pictures you have the most are the kind I love. Nature in its raw beauty.
Jerry Waxler – It was lovely to see you again, Jerry. It truly is an adventure to move blog homes so I’m glad my favorite readers didn’t get lost on the way. Memory Writer’s Network looks like it’s going strong and the domain name is fantastic.
Courtney Ramirez – Thanks for your comment this month, Courtney. Web Writing Info is looking fantastic as well and while I haven’t had a chance to dig into your blog yet I’ve got you in my reader as one I really want to read regularly. You’ve got some brilliant topics and I know I’ll learn a lot from your posts.
Craig Smith – I enjoyed your visit to The Writer’s Round-About this month Craig and I hope you have been enjoying the SG1 Series. I’m almost ready to wrap up the series, one more post left before I give my readers a break from all the Stargate hype. I know others don’t love it as much as we do but it is still amazing how much we can learn about writing from watching such a successful series.
Thank you, everyone, for your lovely comments this month. To all those readers who don’t comment I’d like to say I truly appreciate your support and hope you’ll consider dropping a note just to say hi from time to time. You’re all welcome to email me at any time. I enjoy hearing from other writers. I hope you find my blog a useful resource, and an enlightening, entertaining and enjoyable read. Drop me a line if you have any suggestions for topics you’d like to know more about.
I’m looking forward to enjoying your comments in December. Thanks to those who have already commented and look for the next Commenters Link-Love early in January.
It’s well past time I shared the insight and incredible optimism of a beautiful voice on the web. Michele has played such an encouraging and supportive role for me in the past months. She is a truly unique and magnificent person who shares her hopes, dreams and experience on her fun and lively blog, Writing the Cyber Highway.
Michele L. Tune looks as each opportunity on the cyber highway as an adventure. Her enthusiasm and undefeatable attitude guarantees her success and her determination and ability to surpass obstacles is inspiring. Michele is also such a friendly person. She is a light in the often dark recesses of the web and she seems to bravely delve into so many of those far reaches and spark light and life wherever she goes.
